S.O.S. Moment #1

Tone on Tone
Today I am starting a new series of videos that will be technique videos. Hopefully this series will help you to try something new, reconsider something you have tried before, and/or provide you with some new inspiration.

For today's S.O.S. moment I decided to work on tone on tone. Which means, in this case, using the same color for my focal image, layering, and sentiment. I think it gives a very classic yet simple look. Try it!

Picture and tutorial below.

Okay, so I have two cards for you to view and watch tutorials for. The first one I made this morning--All My Love on Father's Day. I used a fun stamp pack made by Stampendous, entitled Thanks Dad, and also did some fun paper piecing. The second card I made last week using the Nifty Fifty's cartridge (You're Purrrfect!) and didn't get a chance to post it on my blog. Enjoy! And please join my blog or stop on over and join my YouTube channel: Cathi Judd's YouTube Channel

Cuttlebug, Cricut, and Copics! Oh My!

I live in the great state of Washington! We sure get our more than fair share of rain...but I must confess I love it! It's a good thing I live in the northwest. We have recently had a week or so of sunny weather and then rain for the last two days...and with it a lot of complainers. I guess this has always bothered me. When I went to  college in Idaho I remember my roommates thinking it was weird that I knew when it was going to rain--I could just smell it. I love how it smells so sweet just before and after the rain comes. Anyhow I find myself incredibly grateful for the rain and find myself lucky to live in such a green area...just taking time to "find beauty in all things".  And that is the inspiration for my card today!

Thank You Card! With Embossing Techniques!

Really enjoying a gorgeous sunny day here in the northwest which of course makes me happy, so happy that I started thinking of a few people I needed to send some thank you cards too.

I love playing around with different ways to emboss on a project. On this card I heat embossed, used a stylus to create my own embossed design and used my Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots folder.

A picture of my card and a Tutorial are below:

Watch my tutorial below to see what other techniques I used on this card. =)

Strawberry Freezer Jam!

I love summer! Especially the fruit that comes from summer! Below is a short clip of the freezer jam I made on Saturday and my grandma Hansen's recipe.  I love this recipe because anyone can make it.

I know it may sound silly...but every year after making jam, I drag my husband into the kitchen to admire the pretty jars.=)

Grandma Hansen's Freezer Jam:
Stir together 2 cups of crushed fruit ( I do this in the blender) and 4 cups of sugar and let stand. Boil together 3/4 cup water and 1 box of pectin. Boil hard for 1 minute stirring constantly. Then add to fruit mixture and stir for 3 minutes. Put in fruit jars and freeze.

(I always triple the recipe and then add a minute or more to the stirring of the fruit and pectin together). I like to make strawberry, raspberry and blackberry jam. Yummy!!

Just Saying Hello...with distressed paper.

Good Thursday Morning Everyone!  Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here in the Northwest.

Take a look at what I worked on last night. I wanted to make an all occasion card, one that I can grab when I just want to send a quick thought or note to someone. I love the blue and brown together on this card. I used Tim Holtz's paper distressing tool which made the mat have such a fun look!

Mother's Day Card-using Tim Holtz Distress Ink!

It has been a fun busy weekend! Last night my husband and I went for fish & chips and then to see the Avengers! Which was awesome! And then this evening our family performed a puppet show at a Cinco De Mayo Party!  So much fun and great to be with friends.

So ... I have been working on a card for my mom for Mother's Day and decided to do some shading with some Tim Holtz Distress Ink. There are so many fun ways to add color to card and using distress ink is so great because you can use the same color and still get light, dark, and medium shades by layering your color. Watch my video and give it a try.

Have a great weekend everyone!

You're the Best~ Gift Boxes!

I have organized a Fondue Party this evening for the ladies at Church. We are having three ladies come and teach something (on the topic of self-reliance. ex. gardening, meal planning, hair care etc.) during our party and I wanted to have a gift for them. As well as the three young women who will be running a nursery for us so that mother's with small children can attend.

So to thank them for sharing their time and talents, I made these cute little card stock gift boxes full of hugs and kisses! Anyone can make these and you don't even need a personal electric cutting machine. =) Try it out and leave a post.

A Little Bird Told Me, That it Was Your Birthday!

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are having a great Tuesday!  It feels like it has been raining all day here in the good old northwest! So I decided to make a Spring inspired birthday card to cheer me up. =)

Used your border punches lately? I pulled out my Arched Lattice border punch by Martha Stewart, thinking "this reminds me of Spring". In need of a few birthday cards this month, I came up with this cute card to add to my stash!~ Happy paper crafting! Picture and Tutorial Below. ~

Brilliant Blue Dimensional Butterfly

Hello everyone!  It has been about two weeks since my last video so I am excited to share this project with you. =)

I love how cute butterflies look on paper crafting projects. My inspiration for this pretty card comes from a tee-shirt my parents brought back from Peru for one of my daughters.  It is turquoise with a royal blue butterfly on it.  And I thought how cute it would be if it looked like it could almost fly off the card. I also really wanted to try out my newly purchased Cricut Cartridge, Fancy Frames.  To finish the card off I used some ink essentials glossy accents around the frame on the scroll work and also on the body of the butterfly.

Check out the picture and tutorial below. Happy Paper Crafting!

Simple "Puppy" Mini Notebook Cover

I always seems to need a little notepad...but I think they just need to be dressed up a little. Whether tucked in your own handbag or given a way, decorating your own notebook makes it more personal and so super cute as a gift. This cover fits the small $1.00 (four or five) packs that you can find at Riteaid or Dollar Tree.

Tall Flowers Card-with a blender pen and Versamark

Yesterday it rained from morning until night. When the grass started to flood it finally stopped.  The crazy rain and wind had me wishing for spring. So here is a fun Spring card using a Hero Arts stamp, Tall Flowers. I used colored pencils with a blender pen to give a water color look and also used some Versamark.  Below is a picture and a tutorial. Hope you are all having a wonderful day!!

Smile at the Rain!

This morning I was thinking of a good friend who is going through a tough time right now…and thought sometimes we need a reminder that our troubles make us stronger and that things are going to get better.
So this “smile at the rain” card is a reminder that if we didn’t have rain the flowers and trees wouldn’t grow …and that eventually the rain stops and the sun comes out. =)

Loving Us - Card

I am so relieved to see the roads clearing of snow.  The snow is so beautiful but after a week of been couped up, it is nice to get back to a regular routine.  Although being snowed in did give me some time to get caught up on some orders for my business and make some fun projects to show you.  Here is one of the cards I worked on.  I love the designing process.  Playing with color, texture, lines etc. and watching my ideas come to life is very exciting.  This card I thought would be fun for Valentine's Day, an anniversary, or a just because card.  Picture and tutorial below.  Have a great Saturday!

Elegant Valentine - with tutorial

I love giving and receiving handmade Valentine cards!  There is just something special about knowing that not only are they sent with love but a little of time also went into them.  Below is a picture, and  tutorial. The measurements and scoring lines for this elegant tri-fold Valentine are in the video. I don't know who orginally came up with the idea of a tri-fold but they sure are cute, and add an upgrade to the simple half fold.
Below is my first video and I am pretty happy with it-for a first try.  Please pardon a few seconds at the beginning of blurriness and at don't forget to slip in one last piece of ribbon and tie a knot as you will notice I forgot to at the end. Thanks for watching and please leave a comment.  =)
